Travel to Victoria Park halls

Click the index or marker pins to show full details of each location.

Victoria Park, an inner suburb of south Manchester, is home to several University of Manchester halls of residence (dorm complexes). If you have booked accommodation in Victoria Park, you will generally be advised which building you’re in on arrival, and should first go to Dalton-Ellis Hall on Conyngham Road to sign in (but please check the emailed joining instructions for confirmation of this!)

From Manchester Airport

Although the rail link is very useful for getting to central Manchester (see From Manchester Airport to city centre hotels), it does not serve the Victoria Park area. The main options are as follows.

Taxi: this is the most convenient (but not the cheapest) approach. A taxi to Victoria Park will probably cost between £15 and £20. The journey time is around 15 to 20 minutes.

Note the distinction between two varieties of taxi in the UK: true taxis (‘black cabs’, ‘Hackney cabs’), available for immediate hire, and private hire vehicles (‘minicabs’), which must be pre-booked. Manchester Airport offers an uncomplicated booking service on arrival. Private hires are generally cheaper, but you may have to wait for your car, whereas you can pick up a black cab straight away from the rank outside the terminal building.

Bus: The 43 bus is a 24-hour service which runs from the Airport, passing close to Victoria Park. It is slow but cheap.

If you are going to Victoria Park, ask for a ticket to Rusholme (£2.90 as of March 2013) and get off immediately after the Total garage in Rusholme – see the bottom left of our bus map image, half way between Grandale Street and Moss Lane East. The bus journey is around 35 minutes. There is then a walk of around 10 minutes to the Victoria Park halls.

From Manchester Piccadilly rail station

Monday to Friday in the daytime, the 147 bus from the station is the best option. The first stop after the bus turns off Hathersage Road onto Upper Brook Street is less than a 5-minute walk from Dalton-Ellis Hall.

Evenings and weekends, you will need to walk to Princess Street and catch the 50 bus down Upper Brook Street.

From Manchester Oxford Road station

The Oxford Road/Wilmslow Road buses call within 10 minutes’ walk of the Victoria Park halls. The best stop is just past the junction of Hathersage Road, outside the Wilmslow Park development.
