Message 16: 10 June 2013
Dear colleagues
To those who have recently signed up: welcome to the Congress mailing list! We are now sending out weekly updates on Tuesdays, with occasional additional announcements. There will usually be a full update of the Congress programme at http://www.ichstm2013.com/programme/ each Monday before the message.
As this mailing list will be used to carry important practical information about the Congress, we ask that everyone who has registered or intends to register remains subscribed. If you wish to unsubscribe, however, you can do so via the link at the bottom of any message.
This week’s announcements:
1. Programme updates, including committee meetings
2. Excursions
3. How does Manchester smell?
4. Accommodation
5. Registration
6. Mailing list archive
1. PROGRAMME UPDATES, INCLUDING COMMITTEE MEETINGS
As usual, the programme has again been updated, with the main guide at
http://www.ichstm2013.com/programme/guide/
and the two timetables at
http://www.ichstm2013.com/programme/timetable.html (main daytime sessions) and
http://www.ichstm2013.com/programme/lunch-evening.html (lunchtimes and evenings).
In particular, almost all of the business meetings and general assemblies for DHST commissions and other groups have been finalised and added to the site. Please check carefully for the timing of any meeting you are expecting to attend, bearing in mind that some will take place at lunchtimes. Bagged sandwich lunches are available for anyone attending a lunchtime session, and can be reserved via the main registration page or by contacting mcc.reg@manchester.ac.uk ).
The next two weeks will see the programme largely finalised, as we begin to add room and venue locations. Stay tuned!
2. EXCURSIONS
The programme also now includes more information on the centrally planned Congress excursions, including departure and arrival times. The three sites featured are
Jodrell Bank Observatory, home of the iconic Lovell radio telescope:

The registration cost is £10. Several of the daily visits have already sold out, but there are still some tickets left for Thursday 25 and Friday 26 July.

3. HOW DOES MANCHESTER SMELL?
We have also extended the listing of Congress walks and tours at
http://www.ichstm2013.com/programme/guide/m/tours.html
with events including the intriguing ‘Manchester smellwalk’, an olfactory investigation of city life led by Dr Victoria Henshaw of the University of Manchester:
http://www.ichstm2013.com/programme/guide/s/X383.html
This walk is free to Congress attendees, but, like several others, must be booked in advance by email (see profile above for details). Booking requirements vary among the various walks, tours and trips, so please check in advance to avoid disappointment!
4. ACCOMMODATION
Although the official deadline for booking accommodation via the Congress has passed, our colleagues in the conference services office advise us that there is still a small numbers of rooms available at special Congress rates in some of the hotels and halls of residence (dorms). For availability, see the registration page:
https://www.meeting.co.uk/confercare/ichstm2013-reg/registration/
and for details of the venues:
