Message 15: 4 June 2013
Dear colleagues
To those who have recently signed up: welcome to the Congress mailing list! We are now sending out weekly updates on Tuesdays, with occasional additional announcements. There will usually be a full update of the Congress programme at http://www.ichstm2013.com/programme/ each Monday before the message.
As this mailing list will be used to carry important practical information about the Congress, we ask that everyone who has registered or intends to register remains subscribed. If you wish to unsubscribe, however, you can do so via the link at the bottom of any message.
Just a few announcements this week:
1. Paper session changes
2. Symposium chairs
3. Student bursaries (small grants) from the Society for the Social History of Medicine
4. Congress registration
5. Special sessions programme update
6. Mailing list archive
1. PAPER SESSION CHANGES
The programme has again been updated: please see
http://www.ichstm2013.com/programme/guide/
for the latest information. The updates include a number of minor changes to consolidate some of the compiled paper sessions (coded with the letter T). We have tried to contact everyone concerned directly, but please check the timetable carefully in case any changes affect your presentation.
The main changes are as follows:
- T151 has moved from Wednesday early afternoon to Wednesday late afternoon.
- The former T195-B will no longer run. Its remaining presenters have been transferred to other sessions.
- T195-C and T195-D have therefore been re-lettered as T195-B and T195-C respectively. Their timings are unchanged.
- The former T174-C will no longer run, and its presenters have been transferred.
- T174-D therefore becomes the new T174-C, and moves back one slot to Saturday early afternoon.
- T166-D will no longer run, and its presenters have been transferred.
- A small number of presenters have been transferred between sessions T154-B, T181-A and T163-B.
2. SYMPOSIUM CHAIRS
Thank you to all the symposium organisers who have responded to the recent appeal for chair details. The names of chairs confirmed within the past few days should now be visible in the online programme.
If you have been sent a request for chair details and have yet to respond, please help us to complete the process by confirming details within the next week.
3. STUDENT BURSARIES (SMALL GRANTS) FROM THE SOCIETY FOR THE SOCIAL HISTORY OF MEDICINE
Our colleagues in the Society for the Social History of Medicine (SSHM) advise us that they still have bursaries available for SSHM student members attending the Congress. For more details, see
http://www.sshm.org/content/conference-bursaries-students.
To be eligible, students have to be a member of the SSHM at the time of the Congress. Please contact the SSHM (not the Congress organisers) if you have any queries.
4. CONGRESS REGISTRATION
We will soon begin issuing reminders to those potential participants who are listed on the provisional programme, but have not registered. Registrations should be submitted by Monday 1 July to ensure inclusion in the final programme.
If you are a symposium organiser, we would be grateful if you could check your contributors’ plans for registration and let us know of any changes.
A reminder: if your name appears on the Congress programme, but you find that you are unable to attend, please tell us as soon as possible by writing to submissions@ichstm2013.com. Responses may take several days, but all will be processed in due course. In addition, if you are withdrawing from an organised symposium (code numbers beginning S, P and W on the programme), please contact the symposium organisers to advise them.
If you have already registered and need to withdraw, please also contact mcc.reg@manchester.ac.uk to arrange your refund. You will be refunded in full minus £50 to cover handling costs.
5. SPECIAL SESSIONS PROGRAMME UPDATE
The special sessions programme announced in the previous mailing now has an additional session:
E343. Of music, engineers and drugs: when Cottonopolis became Madchester (Wednesday, late afternoon). A discussion session exploring Mancunian cultural identity, popular music and recreational drugs, featuring contributors who experienced ‘Madchester’ from the inside.
6. MAILING LIST ARCHIVE
A reminder that an archive of past messages from this mailing list is now available at:
http://www.ichstm2013.com/mailinglist-archive/
Thanks again for all your contributions to the Congress!
Best regards
