1. FINAL REMINDER: EARLY DISCOUNTED REGISTRATION CLOSES ON SUNDAY 14 APRIL

Registration at the early discounted rate will close in THREE days’ time. After Sunday 14 April, registration will be available at a higher rate until Monday 1 July, which is the final deadline for all registrations.

To register, please go to

http://www.ichstm2013.com/registration/

and follow the link to open the registration form.

Please note that the registration process is managed by the University of Manchester's conference services group. If you have any queries about the registration process, please direct them to mcc.reg@manchester.ac.uk .

Please DON'T send questions about the registration process to ichstm2013.com addresses, or to individual members of the Local Organising Committee. Several colleagues are dealing with very large volumes of correspondence on other parts of Congress administration, and we cannot guarantee that they will respond.

2. REGISTRATION FORM PROCESSING TIMES

If you have submitted the form but have not yet received a response, please note that there may be minor delays owing to the very large size of the Congress. In some cases, it may take up to two working days for a registration to be processed, or for correspondence to receive a reply. Thank you for your patience.

3. BSHS AND WELLCOME TRUST GRANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

Our colleagues at the British Society for the History of Science inform us that all successful applicants for both the BSHS and Wellcome Trust travel grant schemes have now been notified. If you are still waiting for a response, please contact office@bshs.org.uk for further information. (The Congress organisers do not manage this scheme, and cannot advise.)

4. ALTERNATIVE HOTELS AND OTHER ACCOMMODATION ADVICE

Our recommended hotels and student halls of residence have been chosen carefully for reliability and convenience at a range of different prices. However, some delegates have alternative needs, and some of our reserved room allocations will fill up during the registration process.

We have therefore produced some advice on finding alternatives at:

http://www.ichstm2013.com/hotels/alternative.html

This covers the following areas:

  • General advice on finding a hotel
  • Low-priced options
  • Self-catering serviced apartments
  • Mobility and disability needs
  • Airport hotels

5. ACCOMPANYING PEOPLE: ELIGIBILITY FOR CONGRESS DINNER AND EXCURSIONS

Several attendees who are accompanied by partners or family members not attending the Congress have asked us whether we can supply them with extra tickets for the Congress dinner, Old Trafford stadium tour, or other tours and excursions.

For the Congress Dinner, the answer is yes. We will open dinner registration to non-attendees soon: please wait for further instructions. Dinner places can be added after you have completed the main registration. If you were waiting for guidance before registering, please register now (to benefit from the early discount) without the dinner places.

For the stadium tour and excursions, places are more limited and we want to make sure all registered Congress attendees have a chance to be involved. We may be able to extend the offer to accompanying people soon, once we have a clearer estimate of numbers.

Please note that the Congress doesn't have an official accompanying persons' programme. There is, however, plenty to see and do in and around Manchester, and we will be adding more information to our website in the coming weeks. See also the suggestions at the following sites:

6. CONGRESS PROGRAMME UPDATES: PLENARIES AND MAJOR EVENTS

We have added timing information for several events to the published Congress programme. See the 'Plenaries and assemblies' link at

http://www.ichstm2013.com/programme/guide/

and also the timetable at

http://www.ichstm2013.com/programme/timetable.html

Here is a summary of some of the major items:

  • Congress opening ceremony and keynote by Professor Hasok Chang: Monday morning
  • IAHS business meeting and keynote by Professor Julio Samsó Moya: Thursday afternoon
  • DHST Assembly: Wednesday afternoon and Saturday afternoon
  • DHST Young Scholars' Prize winners' presentations: Sunday morning
  • Congress closing ceremony: Sunday morning

7. CONGRESS PROGRAMME UPDATES: COMMITTEE BUSINESS MEETINGS

Several committee meetings for DHST Commissions and other groups have now been timetabled. See the 'Committee meetings' section of the programme guide.

If your meeting is NOT yet scheduled, this information will be available soon.

8. WITHDRAWING FROM THE PROGRAMME

If your name appears on the Congress programme, but you find that you are unable to attend, we're sorry to lose you. Please tell us as soon as possible by writing to submissions@ichstm2013.com (NOT the registration address above). Responses may take several days, but all will be processed in due course.

In addition, if you are withdrawing from an organised symposium (code numbers beginning S, P and W on the programme), please contact the symposium organisers to advise them.

Thanks again for all your contributions.

Best regards

James Sumner
