Founded in 1935, the Society for the History of Alchemy and Chemistry (SHAC) has consistently maintained the highest standards of scholarship in all aspects of the history of alchemy and chemistry from early times to the present. The Society has a wide international membership of over 250 members from 28 countries. We hold annual meetings, offer research awards and prizesand publish the journalAmbix,an internationally recognised, peer reviewed journal and the leading specialist publication in its field, which is viewed as a major outlet for current research. Published four times a year, in February, May, August and November, its remit is to facilitate the publication of high-quality research and discussion all areas relevant to the history of alchemy and chemistry: including ancient, medieval and early modern alchemy, the Chemical Revolution, the impact of atomism, the rise of organic chemistry, the chemical industry, quantum chemistry, and interactions between the chemical sciences and other disciplines. The Journal’s scope extends to the history of pharmacy and chemical medicine, environmental studies of the chemical industry, and the material and visual culture of chemistry. The Society’s newsletter,Chemical Intelligence, is published twice a year. Scholarly support is provided through the Development Fund. We have also established the Graduate Network to bring together postgraduate students in the field.
