History and Philosophy of Geography Research Group of the Royal Geographical Society

The History and Philosophy of Geography Research Group (HPGRG) of the Royal Geographical Society with the Institute of British Geographers (RGS-IBG) was founded in January 1985. The research group brings together researchers interested in the history and philosophy of knowledge in associated fields and in contemporary philosophies, theories and methods related to geography. The HPGRG committee promotes the aims and objectives of the group by organising and sponsoring academic conferences; by convening sessions at the RGS-IBG Annual International Conference; by subsidising the attendance of postgraduates at its conferences; by disseminating information about relevant research activities via its website; by coordinating funding applications; by supporting the publication of research monographs; and by liaising with cognate organisations and disciplines. HPGRG has more than 150 members, who are regularly informed about relevant activities and events by email, and welcomes new members from different disciplines at any time.
