ICOHTEC was founded in Paris 1968, when the Cold War divided the European world. The intent was to provide a forum of scholars for the history of technology from both sides of the 'iron curtain'. It was constituted as a Scientific Section within the Division of the History of Science and Technology of the International Union of the History and Philosophy of Science (IUHPS/DHST). Its first independent symposium was held at Pont-a-Mousson, France (1970). Symposia have been held almost every year since, many with published proceedings. ICON: The Journal of the International Committee for the History of Technology has been published annually since 1995. ICOHTEC's membership base mainly in Europe, but also in the Americas, the Middle East, Japan, India and Australia. Research activities, in which ICOHTEC members cooperate, reflect this special interest. The issues are investigated on a comparative national basis, stressing aspects of cooperation between various nations, regions or institutions. ICOHTEC's 2014 symposium will be held in Brasov, Romania the last weeks of July. For more information about ICOHTEC and its activities see http://icohtec.org.
