The International Commission on the History of Geological Sciences (INHIGEO), was established in 1967 by the International Union of Geological Sciences. It was founded to promote ongoing research into the history of the Earth sciences and currently has more than 250 members from 50 countries. INHIGEO is also affiliated to the International Union of the History and Philosophy of Science.
INHIGEO achieves its objective by sponsoring a major annual symposium with associated field activities. It also encourages publication of individual and collective works on the history of geologyandissues a substantial annual newsletter. This details historical research into Earth sciences worldwide, publicises other pertinent historical activities, and provides scholarly reviews of recent literature on the subject.
The International Commission on the History of Geology (INHIGEO) and the History of Geology Group (HOGG) are jointly sponsoring the 2013 INHIGEO Conference to be held during iCHSTM 2013.
