The Commission on the History of Science and Technology in Islamic Societies is made up of scholars throughout the world who are dedicated to understanding the multifaceted historical role of science within an Islamic context. The Commission is part of the International Union for the History and Philosophy of Science (IUHPS).
Founded in the 1980s, we now have over 150 members from over 30 countries. Originally, the Commission aimed primarily to connect the community of scholars of science and technology in Islamic societies with the IUHPS and with the planning of the quadrennial congresses. The Commission has evolved into the most important worldwide professional organization for scholars of science and technology in Islamic societies. The Commission serves to keep scholars abreast of recent research, funding and employment opportunities and also occasionally organizes independent conferences.
The Commission maintains a website (islamsci.org) that is updated and which contains our newsletters, contact information, member directory, and information about how to join. There is also an active listserv for its members.
